How the Flooring Calculator Works

This calculator helps you estimate how much flooring material you need for your project. It calculates the total floor area, adds an optional waste factor, and determines how many boxes of flooring you must purchase based on the coverage per box.

Formulas Used

The calculator uses standard flooring formulas:

• Floor Area: Length × Width
• Material Needed (with waste):
  Floor Area × (1 + Waste % ÷ 100)
• Boxes Needed:
  Material Needed ÷ Coverage per Box

Example

Example for a 12 ft × 10 ft room, 20 sq ft per box, and 10% waste:

Floor Area = 12 × 10 = 120 sq ft
Material Needed = 120 × 1.10 = 132 sq ft
Boxes Needed = 132 ÷ 20 = 6.6 → 7 boxes
